Our travel in Kawasan Falls at Badian, Cebu, Philippines

Philippines is a country in southeast Asia. It is located near the equator. The country is very tropical and full of lush forest. It also has urban cities where buildings race to the skies. For me, the stunning places in the Philippines are hidden in the lush provinces.fhh.JPG

Last week, me and my friends visited one of the Philippines greatest tourist attraction. It is located far from the City. The exact location of the place is at Matutinao, Badian, Cebu. To reach your destination you can follow this.

  1. Catch the next plane to the Philippines
  2. Travel to Cebu by the means of Ship or by booking another flight.
  3. When you reach the airport you can stay at Cebu’s hotels or you can quickly get a taxi to take you to the south bus terminal.
  4. Find a bus that will take you to Badian.
  5. Next is to stop at Matutinao Church
  6. After that you will walk a few meters until you will reach the paying station where you have to pay 45 pesos. The money that you are paying will be for the improvement of the place.
  7. Lastly, you will have to go for a 2 km hike and then you will reach the beautiful Kawasan Falls

Kawasan-Falls-Tourists

Our Kawasan experience was one of the most unforgettable adventure. We have been dreaming to travel here for a long time because we heard that is one of the best tourist spots in Cebu and even in the Philippines! When we reached the first level we were in awe. The water kept falling from a big cliff and going down towards the crystal blue waters. We saw people splashing and swimming in the first level. After that we went to the second level. The second level was even better! There were tiny falls and a very big falls. We saw people jumping from the highest point. It was awesome. We decided to go to the water. The water was cool and refreshing. It is indeed very relaxing. It just magically takes away all the stress and pain we experience in school and work.

Lastly, we went to the third level and there we swinged in a rope and then jumped in the water. It was so much fun. We slid down slides and relaxed in a bubble made from the splash of the water. The experience was unlike any other. The problem that you have will vanish. In contrast to man-made pools, waterfalls are natural and cool. It has no chemicals that could damage your body. You will also experience thrilling adventures that will get your blood pumping.

I encourage those adventure seeking junkies out there. Kawasan Falls will surely give you a great experience. It is perfect to those who like to do adventures in natural places. I also recommend this to people who just wants to rest and relax. This place is very Zen and it will clear out your mind. Traveling alone or traveling with your buddies Kawasan Falls is the best for you!

Being an honor student is just a title

By: Migue June C. Lazarraga

Since I started going to school, my mother always wanted me to be a good student. When I was in nursery I became an honor student. Afterwards , she expected me to be an achiever. She tutored me everyday and taught me lessons in advance. My mom got what she hoped I became a consistent honor student. From nursery until the present. Yes, it sound good right? Being an honor student always getting a grade above ninety, receiving medal every year and much more. It’s actually not good. It is terrible.

This life has ruined and enhanced my life. When I was a child I didn’t have a good childhood like the other kids. I was not able to play outside as often as they do. I was not able to experience those because my mother would make me sit and read a book all day. She didn’t want me to go out because I haven’t answered her reviewer. Nonetheless I was suppressed of the fun I should experience as a child.

thumb_young-woman-studying-library

When I was in elementary I would be scolded if I have mistakes on an exam. I would be yelled at if I lost an academic contest.I always have medals and awards but it cost me many things. I was not able to practice tennis everyday because I have to study to maintain my grade. In high school it changed.I was not an honor student when I was in grade 7. I was tired of that lifestyle so I decided that I don’t want to be an honor student anymore. My life changed and I was opened to a new life

boy-athlete-medals-20291096.jpg

I realized how much I am missing. I missed half of my life. I was not able to enjoy it because of facing books always. When I was in grade 7 I also met new people. I met people who were don’t get depressed even if they have 75. they are even happy that they passed. They have low grades but I can see that their happiness is real. They say that  “ We might have 75 but we have learning “. It is about passing and not competition.

Based on the research on St. Bernadette Universal in Utah. It shows that high ranked student tend to have mental disease and have high risk of mental illness in the future. It shows that On the year 1990  35% of honor students in that university was depressed and mentally ill. On the year 2000 it reached 50%. It decreased drastically over the decade showing that this is getting even worse. Honor students tend to be emotionally unstable and prone to self harm.

I was tired of being an honor student because it is just a title.I don’t want to be depressed again. I don’t want to think that I am good enough. It doesn’t matter. We need to learn and make memories with others. Rather than raising your voice you should have your own voice to light up your world in luminous galore. We are born to be comets and leave our mark. Learn instead of passing. Enjoy being a student and make it unforgettable. Education is the key but wake up in the child broken sky. I was absorbing everything but I was not able to let my light shine. Together we can inspire galaxy of stars. Who learns instead of competing. Honors doesn’t mean anythings. Its just a title.

“Honors”

By: Migue June Lazarraga

Yes I am one of those

Who always have books in their nose

When its smart they scream my name

I don’t know why its insane

Were not different were the same

We just humans just different name

Here is how were different

We like to study in silent

I am obsessed with learning

It is so much fun

Sometimes i am good at procrastinating

Some days I study till I see the sun

I im just you I get break downs

And I also wish for more vacations

Not all of us are nerds who hate sports

We are not snobs who care about our grades

Some are fun loving people and party all day

You can bet that we can study in just one day

They say essays take time

But they make us do it in one night

Presentation is my enemy

but I look forward in learning anatomy

Assignment due tommorow

All this information are hard to swallow

Alright ill stop here

I have things to do and failing I fear

To those reading honors don’t matter

Grades don’t matter

Now ill go and study now

Because getting honors I actually don’t know how

Leisure and study are two different things in a students perspective. But did you know there is a way to balance leisure and study?

By: Marielle Mahinay

Here’s how :

you might think that you cant have a good time while studying well, think again. How about using your good time while studying, for that it will make you study efficiently. there is also ways where you leisure at the same time study.

Family-is-what-you-make-it.jpg

you may use other methods like prioritizing your schedule. if its time to study, its intended for studying. if there are no schedules for studying, researching and etc. then go have fun. People need time to have fun for change.

It just depends on how you value and respond to your agendas. You decide for whats best and suites for you. Be responsible for the time at hand. Not everyone has time in the world. Make sure you make it count.

To Receive Great Grades and have equal time for fun.

  1. Work hard.   Getting good grades in school is not a walk in the park. A+ Grades cannot be summoned with a flick of the wrist and poof!, there is a grade you can be proud of. Make sure you understand that.
  2. To start with, listen to the teacher. This doesn’t mean talking while listening…no, they don’t go together. Listening ultimately lets information or directions to come right in, so you don’t have to get up and ask the teacher what he/she said and make them annoyed. Remember the rule: “Silence is Golden, Duct Tape is Silver”
  3. Stop procrastinating! This gets you nowhere, and just makes you feel overwhelmed or hopeless. It’s not worth it!
  4. When a test is coming, actually study for it. Yeah, maybe you thought you remembered everything, except when you’re on the test and notice you forgot Einstein’s theory of Relativity or who the second king of Kush was. Studying can almost always stop this from happening. Pick a night you’re free and devote it to finding a good way of studying, taking notes, etc. Studying with friends can help tremendously, as long as you can work and accomplish tasks efficiently without getting side-tracked.
  5. When you’re sick for a day, ask your teacher if you can come in for lunch. Miss recess for a day. Is 15 minutes out of your life really gonna’ kill you? Probably not! Not only will you get the work and complete it, you have almost the whole time to have the teacher help you with problems and understanding them, so you’ll be back in a jiffy. Plus, you’ll earn the respect of your teachers for your high reputation of responsibility!
  6. Probably the most obvious rule. Get your brain going and get that work done! What do you think the teacher’s going to grade? So sit down, stop reading this if you have to, and start completing that homework!

We are not Robots!

By: Reshelle Manatad

WE ARE NOT ROBOT!!!!! Homework was a leading cause of stress, with 24 percent of parents saying it’s an issue. “I tried acting, liked it, and stuck with it. I saw it as the way I would keep that promise to myself of getting back at those who had made my school life a misery”. Teenagers say they’re suffering, too. A survey by the American Psychological Association found that nearly half of all teens — 45 percent — said they were stressed by school pressures.

we-are-not-robots.jpg

CHRONIC STRESS can cause a sense of panic and paralysis, Alvord says. The child feels stuck, which only adds to the feeling of stress. Stress is often described as a feeling of being overwhelmed, worried or run-down. Stress can affect people of all ages, genders and circumstances and can lead to both physical and psychological health issues. By definition, stress is any uncomfortable “emotional experience accompanied by predictable biochemical, physiological and behavioral changes.”1 Some stress can be beneficial at times, producing a boost that provides the drive and energy to help people get through situations like exams or work deadlines. However, an extreme amount of stress can have health consequences and adversely affect the immune, cardiovascular, neuroendocrine and central nervous systems.2 Parents can help put the child’s distress in perspective, particularly when they get into what Alvord calls catastrophic “what if” thinking: “What if I get a bad grade, then what if that means I fail the course, then I’ll never get into college.” Then move beyond talking and do something about it.

The pressures of high school can be extra stressful for kids with learning and attention issues.A history of struggles and setbacks can increase their worries and anxiety. Here are common reasons for high school stress —and how to help. Fear of Failure Kids who’ve struggled in school for many years often come to high school with a history of setbacks. Past failures can make the demands of high school feel even greater. What you can do: Remind your child about his strengths and about the strides he’s already made. Talk about resilience and his ability to use past failures to actually move forward. Get an expert’s advice on how to overcome failure in school

Explore tips to help him cope with test anxiety. Tougher Academics and More Responsibilities The academic demands increase with every year of high school. Even if kids have made great strides in middle school, they know the work will get more challenging. At the same time, they’re increasingly expected to self-advocate for what they need. What you can do: Remind your child of the supports he has—both at school and at home. Encourage him to reach out to teachers for help. If he has an IEP, he can reach out to his IEP case manager too, and even ask about having self-advocacy goals included in his IEP. You may want to look into tutoring options. You can also Help him find the right mix of classes and activities. Work with him to develop strong study habits and learn to slow down on homework. Social Pressures Social situations can also be a source of stress for teens. They can feel pressure to fit in, to be popular and to have a lot of friends—whether these are real friends or not. And as teens become more independent, they may find themselves in new and possibly risky situations where they need to make tough choices. What you can do: Read about dating hurdles your child may face, along with common issues at parties. Role-playing can help. You can also: • Find ways to help him handle school cliques.

Get tips from experts on when to let teens face the consequences of their actions. Uncertainty About the Future In high school, kids have to start thinking about what kind of career they want to pursue. They also have to choose a path: college, work, vocational training. If your child has an IEP, he’ll go through a formal process to plan that transition. But that alone may not lessen the stress. What you can do: Assure your child that feeling unsure or worried about the future is normal. Remind him that there are many ways for him to find success and happiness in life. You can also Talk about different paths kids can take after high school and career options—including careers for kids who don’t want to sit at a desk. Encourage your child to watch the documentary Being You. It’s about three young people with learning and attention issues who travel around the country to explore what the future may hold for them. You can even watch it together and have a conversation using the Being You discussion guide. Concerns About College Just thinking about college can be stressful for kids with learning and attention issues. But the process of getting there can create specific stressors. These include college entrance exams, filling out applications and choosing a school. What you can do: Talk about types of colleges and how they differ. If he’s eligible, let him know that you’ll work with his case manager to get him college testing accommodations, and that you’ll help him find colleges that are a good fit. You can also Give him a sense of control by discussing which might be better for him.

shutterstock_132061598-copy

Explain to him why it’s important that he take the lead in choosing a college, and share realistic tips to help guide his choice. It’s natural for kids with learning and attention issues to feel stress about high school. But ongoing stress can build and sometimes may lead to mental health issues. Know the signs of anxiety and depression. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s doctor if you have concerns. Keep in mind that stress isn’t always bad. Learn about the difference between good stress and bad stress for kids with learning and attention issues. No matter what you do, no matter how many times you screw up and think to yours “there’s no point to carry on”, no matter how many people tell you that you can’t do it – keep going. Don’t quit. Don’t quit, because a month from now you will be that much closer to your goal than you are now. Yesterday you said tomorrow. Make today count.

How study or education can affect the health of students?

Education is critical to social and economic development and has a profound impact on population health. We are obliged to go to school and maintain some passing marks. Moreover, we cannot achieve a better and healthy life without education. Education is the only treasure that we can nurture and share to others. But, what if it is the cause of our health problems?. Health is the most important to all mankind. Because without the state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being we can’t successfully do what we want to be done in our life.

Knoweldge-Sharing-1080x640.jpg

Being healthy through physical, mental, social is good but knowing on how to maintain a healthy life is best, thus, we need to learn because widening our knowledge has no limits. Understanding the relationship between education and health as a student can be fault-finding because as a normal student we can’t determine what is essential to life, is it the education?, the health?, or both,?. Knowing the fact that through education we can be successful but without a healthy body we can’t gain the education we want. So, how does the study affect the health and for that there are no exact reason why study can nearly cause problems to our health.

EMB028_530x@2x.png

Therefore, it depends on how the student or person manage both correctly because if we have enough learnings to know everything, to know how really important education is, and how meaningful to have a healthy life for that reason we don’t have a doubts and problem at all. A saying from Rizal “Kabataan, pag-asa ng bayan” so we hence do everything in moderate and accordingly.

Here are 11 habits you can use to enhance your learning style, develop a good and healthy  study routine and start achieving your goals.

  • As you can see, visual learners learn best when pictures, images, and spatial understanding is used.
  • Auditory learners prefer using music, sounds or both.
  • Kinesthetic learners prefer a more physical style of learning through using the body, sense of touch and hands.
  • Logical learners desire to use reasoning, logic and systems.
  • Verbal learners will prefer using words in writing and speech.
  • Social learners will prefer to learn with other people or in groups.
  • Solitary learners are able to learn best alone.

If you have good study habits you will be more healthy. You will less likely be stressed and depressed. it is essential that you must maintain healthy lifestyle and at the same time perform well in school.

It’s not about learning anymore, its about passing

By: Khevin Luzaria

As a gr. 11 student i felt pressure in getting high marks so that i could go to a good and respective university. I would study hard to keep my grades in order and organize. Students nowadays are being busy in their own homeworks ,projects, activities, and performance task. They all be doing what the teacher gave to them and they must submit it in time. They don’t care if they learn because their goal is to get high grades in every subjects. Some students does not study during exams or quiz, they just open the notes and they can get perfect scores.

bigstock-Student-cheating-at-exam-look-40072537.jpg

Turning heads to the right and left so that they will not be caught. Students are not learning about education, they learn the way in how to cheat. thus, school is revolving around grades than education. So the expectations of the students to do well is affecting their confidence and leading them to choose cheating as an option. If they teach the students how to be proud of what they can do for themselves, none of them would cheats as much if their teachers believed in them. Being a student has so much stress and students aren’t able to learn the way they want to learn or should learn. They are so worried if they wont pass, many of those students are sleep deprived or depressed, which does not help there ability to learn.

Diet and Exercise Tips ro Excessive body weight contributes to snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, in addition to being a major influence on general health and well-being. Obstructive sleep occurs in about 50-60 percent of those who are obese. A recent report from the National Center for Health Statistics concludes that 35 percent of adults exercise regularly (more than 6 of 10 don’t), and nearly four in 10 aren’t physically active. Lack of exercise can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The CDC estimates that about 112,000 deaths are associated with obesity each year in the United States. However, this estimate is likely to change in the future as more data become available. Proper diet and exercise are the mainstays for a healthy lifestyle, although many Americans turn to costly fad diets and exercise programs that fail to provide weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. The basic tenets to gradual weight loss and good health include developing healthy eating habits and increasing daily physical activity. Self-Help Guidelines for Healthy Activity:

  • Consult a physician  men over age 40; women over 50; people with (or at risk for) chronic health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, or obesity. Start out slowly and build up activity gradually over a period of months. This will help avoid soreness and injury.
  • Try to accumulate 30 minutes or more of moderate-intensity cardiovascular activity each day. You can do all 30 minutes together or through short bouts of intermittent activity (e.g., 10 minutes at a time).
  • Add strength-developing exercises at least twice per week. Incorporate physical activity into your day (walk to the office or store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk or jog at lunch time, etc.)
  • Make leisure time active garden, walk, ride a bike with family and friends, participate in an exercise class, join in a sports activity.
  • Select activities you enjoy, find satisfying, and that give you a feeling of accomplishment. Success leads to increased motivation to be physically active.
  • Be sure your activities are compatible with your age and physical condition. Make it convenient to be active. Choose activities that are readily accessible (right outside your door) like gardening, walking, or jogging.
  • Try active commuting.Cycle, walk, or in-line skate to work or to the store. Make your activity enjoyable  listen to music, include family and friends, etc
